The Power of Letting Go

I once read a post which came on social media of an article from a "hate group," a fanatical group promoting hate posts against some other party, and in the end of this post, which brought out incidents which happened over twenty or more years ago, they warned the readers, "Never forgive, never forget."  This is the tagline and core of revenge.  The heart could never forgive and never forget anything and it is passed on, from one generation to the other.  It is like a never ending cycle.  In the end, all are weary and wasted, their own nations are destroyed, but they cannot stop!  Revenge is a self destructive spirit, it eats itself to destroy itself.

The face of revenge is always hungry
The heart never soothed, always angry
The soul is like a candle that consumes itself
Exhausted, burnt out, with nothing to give
Living only revenge as the motive to live

I recount a true incident of revenge, which came in the "crime patrol series" and what really struck me was the workshop of the nefarious activities of revenge.  There were once two friends who lived in a village, and they each had a little son.  Later, one of the friends moved away from the village to work in a city where he became rich over time.  Some years later, he went back for a holiday to his village.  The old friend still lived in the village and was a vegetable seller.  One day, the rich man's son went to play with his old friend, the vegetable seller's son.  When the rich man saw that, he stopped his son from playing from him telling him "don't play with a vegetable seller's son, or you will become like that!"  The vegetable seller heard that and his heart grew black.  Sometime later, he called the rich man's son for a walk to the outskirts of the village and he killed the poor unsuspecting boy.  He later called the father, threatening him, almost as if the boy was alive, and the rich father kept begging him not to harm his son, not knowing he was already killed.  The police were able to arrest this vegetable man seller who was unrepentant and still cursing the weeping rich man who finally found out his son was dead.  The vegetable seller went to jail, an angry revengeful man, he did not care at that moment that he would be in jail for the rest of his life.  Perhaps after the euphoria of his glory killing faded off, he may have regretted at least being locked up in jail, if not for the killing of a poor innocent boy, but it was shocking that he had no trace of remorse or repentance.  Such is the meanness and lowlands of revenge.

The strange thing of revenge is it picks on an incident, which the other person is totally unaware of and never knew caused such offense, so we do not know which kind of person we may offend and the proportions of revenge they will take.

A vengeful person is far away from God.  When they die and leave this earth, they will go to an endless eternity without God.  I John 4:8:  "Whoever does not love does not know God because God is love."

Revenge destroys the soul completely.
But if revenge is replaced with forgiveness
The Heavens would open and blessings would rain
One's thoughts would flow to a higher plane
With higher thoughts, we can soar on eagle's wings
And the rumbling revenge chant is broken and replaced
With a soul is free as a bird that in blue skies sings
And that person can accomplish the greatest things!

Choose abundant life and let go of revenge, and one will be free indeed to accomplish great wonders, climb majestic mountains, and cross silver seas.  Revenge is just not worth it!
